Charlie Brooks wins the South West Open Doubles with Will Ellison

Charlie Brooks, National Doubles champions in 2013 and 2014, continued their unbeaten partnership by winning the South West Open Doubles at Blundell’s. Charlie, Captain of CURFC in 2006, had been out of action for several months recovering from yet another knee operation. In the final Charlie and Will faced Ed Kay & Ben Beltrami, making it a 3/4 Cambridge final (Will was at Imperial). Charlie & Will had little trouble in disposing of their young opponents 11-1, 11-2. Charlie is back!

But let’s not dismiss Ed and Ben too easily: Ben had reached the semi-final of the Singles, where he lost to Will Ellison; Ed had beaten Matt Cavanagh in his semi-final but like most of the top players these days he found National Singles champion Will too mobile and too consistent in the final, losing 2-11, 5-11.
