Light Blues do the treble at the 86th Varsity Match

St. Paul’s School; Saturday 20th February 2016

This year’s Varsity Match was the biggest event of its kind since its inception in 1925, with three contests taking place.

In the main match the Cambridge VIII beat Oxford by 284-120 to claim the Jock Burnet Trophy for the sixth year in succession.

On the adjacent courts the Sparrows IV defeated the Beavers by 161-92 and thus retained the Fist of Iron.

The historic aspect of this year’s event was, however, to be found in the 2nd Ladies Varsity Match, the first to figure four players per side. After last year’s heavy defeat of the Cambridge pair, this year’s IV set out to gain revenge and won a well fought contest by 147-83, thus winning the new Ladies’ Silver Salver.
