Cambridge win a 7th Varsity match in a row — and Ladies too!

St. Paul’s School, 18th February 2017

The Cambridge University VIII, led by captain Ben Beltrami, won their 7th Varsity Match in a row, by 293-94. With three Full Blues in their first IV, all of whom are former National Schools’ Singles champions, Cambridge were far too strong for their opponents. They were backed up admirably by the freshman 3rd pair and by old hands playing at 4th pair.

Cambridge now boast 57 wins to 30 by Oxford.

The Sparrows were not so strong and ceded the Fist of Iron to their Oxford opponents, the Beavers, by a considerable margin.

Quite the opposite, though, in the 3rd Ladies’ Varsity match, which Cambridge won by 180-6! The Cambridge IV was led by Georgina Shepherd, ranked 13 in the Women’s Rankings, backed up by two more ranked players. Between them they had far too much experience for the opposition.
