Ed Kay and Matt Shaw make it four in a row at the U25s
Saturday/Sunday, 3-4 February 2018
At the National U25 Championships organiser Ed Kay, competing for the final time in this age group, won his fourth Singles title in a row. In the process he beat Rob Whitehorn in the quarter-final and his partner Matt Shaw in the semi-final.
Ed & Matt went on to win the Doubles title — also for the fourth year in a row, — beating Russell & Watkinson in the semi-final and Arnold & Beltrami in the final. Ed has in fact now won the Doubles 7 years in a row, having previously won the title three times with Dan Tristao.
Last year’s captain of CURFC, Ben Beltrami, had the galling experience of losing both finals as it was he whom Ed beat in the Singles final also. Ben, however, has four more years ahead of him in this competition, while Matt has a further two.
Jeremy Manger and Ed Pyman from CURFC also competed in these championships, with Ed runner-up in the Singles Plate.
