Success for Cambridge players at the National U25s

Oundle School
Saturday/Sunday, 2-3 February 2019

Cambridge University Number 1 and 2nd seed, Andrew Boyd, aged just 20, won silver in this year’s National U25 Singles Championship, losing in a high quality final 15-7, 15-12 to Dave Butler, who was in his final year of eligibility for this event. It was the third time these two had met this season, with the score at one-all, after a victory for Dave in the semi-final of the British Universities championships in November, followed by a first-round victory for Andrew in the National Singles at Manchester in December.

There was a second appearance in a Plate final this season for CURFC’s captain, Jeremy Manger. Having experienced defeat at the British Universities championships at the hands of Bristol student Cameron Low, Jeremy suffered the same at Oundle at the hands of Bristolian Archie McCreath.

Two previous captains of CURFC were involved in the final of the U25 Doubles. Defending champion Matt Shaw, last year’s captain, and his new partner, Theo Parker from Bristol, had to give way to Matt’s predecessor as CU captain, Ben Beltrami, and his long-term partner Ollie Arnold, also from Bristol.
