Ed Kay and Charlie Brooks win titles at the South West Open Championships

Ed Kay, captain of CURFC 2012-13, successfully retained the South West Open Singles title which he won in 2019 (no competition in 2020) by beating Tom Watkinson in the semi-final and Will Ellison in the final. It is Ed’s 11th Open Singles title; he is currently ranked Nr 2 in the National Rankings.

Ed was not as successful in the Doubles, which he won in 2019 with Ollie Arnold. This time, playing with Dave Butler, Ed lost in the final to 4-time National Doubles Champions Charlie Brooks & Will Ellison. Charlie was Captain of CURFC in 2005-06; it was his third victory in this Doubles competition.

Further success was had for previous captains of CURFC when Matt Shaw won the American Doubles competition at the same championships. Matt was captain of CURFC 2017-18.
