Kay & Shaw win the North West Open Doubles

Manchester, January 14-15, 2017

National U25 Doubles Champions Ed Kay & Matt Shaw won their first open title together at Manchester at the recent North West Open championships.

On their way to gold Ed & Matt beat Anthony Goodwin & Neil Roberts in the quarter-final and then schools champions Ollie Arnold & CURFC’s own Ben Beltrami in a close three-gamer in the semi-final. In the final they played targeted Fives to beat Will Ellison & Gareth Price 11-1, 11-8.

For Ed it was his second success in this event, having won in 2015 with Dan Tristao, but for Matt it was his first open title.

In the Singles Ed won silver, losing in the final for not-the-first-time to the player one rung above him in the National Rankings, Will Ellison.

Matt Shaw, Ben Beltrami and Charlie Brooks had all reached the quarter-finals, from which Ben and Charlie emerged to contest the semi-finals, with Will and Ed respectively.
